Special Education Supervisors focus on learning and supporting the work of all of your staff and students.
- Assist in the formulation of a philosophy and objectives for the special education programs. Keep abreast of developments in special education, and determine their appropriateness for inclusion in the district’s educational program
- Coordinate the development and evaluation of the special education curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Study, evaluate, and, recommend materials, teaching aids, equipment, and programs to improve instruction
- Ensure special education compliance
- Provide teachers with counsel and assistance regarding the instructional programs and educational environment for special needs children
- Plan and facilitate educational in-services for special education staff as directed by the district superintendent
- Represent the district at local, state, and regional activities/committees as directed by the superintendent
- Maintain liaison and active participation with educational leaders in special education at the local, state, regional, and national level
- Recommend needed changes in policy appropriate to assigned areas
- Attend meetings and in-services as appropriate (RTI, IEP, 504) and act as a liaison between special education teachers, general education teachers, administrators, and parents.
- Assist with student referrals, observations, screenings, and the identification procedure.
- Assist the superintendent in determining staffing needs and selecting personnel for special education programs.
- Assist the superintendent/transportation director of the district served with transportation needs for special education students as requested.
- Work with other district leaders to support a comprehensive MTSS/RTI process
